The documentary focuses on those who are committed to changing the countryside with action. The five protagonists travel to the countryside or return to their hometowns with their ideals. With the help of different means such as education, agriculture, tourism, architecture, and art, they hope to promote changes in the countryside. Their actions also point to a proposition—what is the possibility of the direction of the countryside in the context of urbanization? The film crew used more than a year to observe and record the protagonists’ efforts, difficulties and breakthroughs. At the same time, they also used the perspective of local villagers to reflect on these “interventionists”, depicting the confusion and hope in the lives of these “in the countryside” people, and the appearance of their ideal countryside in their minds.
After watching this documentary about the countryside, I want to pay more attention to the current situation faced by rural tourism in China.

What is the problem you’re trying to solve?
Due to lack of funds and lack of awareness and plan, construction was started immediately. The development only emphasizes scale, does not emphasize quality and is shoddy. Many rural tourism developments only consider the current situation. and some rural tourism development itself is a kind of destruction. In addition, when developing rural tourism in some villages, the artificial traces are too obvious, and the tendency of urbanization has seriously affected the characteristics of rural tourism.

I can condense the local characteristics, promote the local culture, excavate the rural memory, protect the original ecological environment of the village in the planning and design of rural tourism, operation management, tourism product design, etc., so that the rural civilization can be inherited and developed naturally.
