offer a simple explanation of the concept of ‘affordance’.

In “Design Psychology”, Donald Norman introduced a psychological concept, Affordance. Norman used a long paragraph to explain what Affordance is:

The word “Affordance” refers to the relationship between a physical object and a person. Whether it is animals or humans, or even machines and robots, “Affordance” means any interaction between them. The manifestation of Affordance is determined by the quality of the item and the subject’s ability to interact with the item.

Designers find that when designing interfaces for electronic devices, they need a way to mark which parts can touch, slide up, slide down, or sideways, or click. Because there is no suitable word to describe, so the designers used the word “Affordance”, and use “I put an affordance there” to express why they are displayed as a circle on the screen, indicating that you can touch or click there.

Navigation

The menu can also be used for navigation purposes. For example, in the Safari browser, I can click and hold the back button to display a list of websites I’ve visited before.

Similarly, on the navigation bar of the system, clicking and holding the back button can display a similar menu for navigation purposes, and users can jump directly to the page they want to go to.

Select

The menu can also be used for selection purposes. For example, in the podcast app, click the sort button in the upper right corner, the menu is used to make a selection, and the system will adjust the sorting method of the content according to your selection.
